Rumored layoffs at DC

Mon Aug 10, 2020 4:40 pm

Well, isn't this an interesting turn of events...

DC Comics Staff Told About Layoffs Today – DC Universe First?
https://bleedingcool.com/comics/dc-comi ... rse-first/
Layoffs at Warner Bros have been widely expected over the weekend, and this morning Bleeding Cool learned that this would indeed DC Comics as well, including editorial staff. Variety has numbered 650 layoffs coming from Warner Bros while HBO is expected to lose up to 175 staffers, topping 800 staffers.

Turns out all it takes is one global pandemic and looming economic collapse for people and companies in this industry to stop failing upwards.

I hope this ends up being the kick in the butt they so desperately need to right the ship.

If they have to cut it down to a skeleton crew and start releasing less comics each week, but the few that they do release go up in quality, within 5 to 10 years they can get back to big boy status.

The whole industry needs to restructure and one of the first steps should be to permaban twitter for all employess.
Half the cancer that is killing comics comea from that anti-social abomination.

I agree, hopefully DC views this as a wake-up call, but I highly doubt it.

Comicbook shops have been suffering for quite a while now, but they are pretty much doomed with these recent developments.

I expect that Marvel is in for a similiar treatment, seeing as Disney is hemoraging money from all directions.

My favourite ingenious inebriate ways in with his usual "nail on the head" biting commentary.

About the only thing he is wrong about is Marvel having the money to prop up the failing comics division.
Overlord Disney has always treated the movie and the comics divisions as separate entities and now that Disney is feeling the monetary hurt, along with the precedent set with DC, heads at Marvel must be sweating bullets.

At least the ones that have to reasonable grey cells to rub together. Morons like Mark Waid are still probably living in their own alternate universe.

Not to mention Disney's plans for phase 4 of the MCU. I'm surprised at the little to none SJW garbage in Phases 1-3, but they're fixing that in phase 4. I'm definitely not watching any of those movies.
