The new Iron Age of comics

Fri Jul 15, 2022 6:45 pm

We got Isom from the new Rippaverse: https://rippaverse.com/

Which looks awesome and so far has raised around $2 Million so far, with a little under 70 days yet to grow.

Other Independent comics I have personally invested in is Gemshock and Jack the Ripper: Vampire Hunter from Mandy Summers:

And the upcoming Primitive War from Ethan Pettus:

All three can be found on Indiegogo, though for some reason the direct address won't post on the forum for some reason.

That looks interesting. I'm kind of strapped for cash at the moment, but if there are scans and they are good, I will consider it.

I finally got my copy of "Jack the Ripper, Vampire Hunter"!
Spoiler: Show
It's even better then I thought it was gonna be. What I thought I was going to get was a righteous level headed normal man in Jack who's vampire hunting is just misinterpreted as serial killing. What I didn't expect, but really enjoy, is that in the comic Jack is slowly loosing his mind as he begins to succumb to vampirism, with his new bloodlust coloring his vampire hunting.
You first see him from the point of view of an American detective who is aiding the British police in tracking down the serial killer, before you see the same events from Jack's point of view.
It's very well done, and the art is fantastic!
This is issue one, and while it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger it does tell a pretty full story. Also the campaign for issue 2 starts soon. I really like this comic, I'm so glad I finally gotten it!

I read through Isom #1...and I want more. It was a great compelling start, which left just enough questions to wet the imagination. The art is really well done, and the entire book comes off as more professional then most of what the big 2 have been churning out for at least a decade. It took me back to the early 2000s, when there was some quality control in superhero comics. There is a good mix of story, action, and mystery and I really enjoyed reading it. Now all I want is Isom issue #2.

Glad to hear it is good. The one not so good thing for me about the Iron Age comics is that there are no scans out there and their operations are definitely not big enough to ship a single copy all the way to my little patch of nowhere and the import fees would be gruesome.

Yeah, that does suck. Hopefully when it comes to Isom at least Rippa is planning on turning it into a full fledged rival company, so maybe in time you'll be able to get your hands on it. When I bought the physical copy of Primitive War I got the digital version as well. I haven't read it yet though, because I want to wait for the paper to be in my hands.

Finally got my issue of Primitive War #1. While it's not bad, it's a bit slow story wise. Which is a bit of a downside, given how long it takes the issues to roll out. The art is amazing though. There is a bit of dime store philosophizing for me. I know it takes place during the Vietnam war, and that goes with the territory...but it's Nam with DINOSAURS! I was expecting a bit more over the top ridiculousness while what I'm getting is a bit more serious survival horror. I still enjoyed the comic and am going to get the next issue.

You said you have a digital version of that one?
What's the size of the file?

Finally got a moment free to read Primitive War #1.

I liked it a lot. It's not ground breaking in and of itself, but as big fan of the Dino Crisis series, it hits some of the right buttons.

It's a good hook for a #1, but it certainly feels like a one time go. Not much reason to reread, maybe later when the rest of the issues drop as a storyline or a TPB form.

It's got some good elements in it, with the animalistic nature of man, survival horror, mad soviet science, grizzled veterans who are emotionally numb to the nightmare the survive in.
It's all quite compelling and the art is amazing. It is a little unbalanced perhaps. The art depicting humans is very stylized whereas the art depicting nature and the dinosaurs is extremely detailed, bordering on realistic.

Funny that the colourist is of balkan origin. I think it says something about it being an adaptation of a novel series, which kind of explains the philosophising.
Again, I liked it a lot.
