Ghost in a Dorm
Ghost in a Dorm
Sounds like a horror movie, right? No,it isn't. Just a few minutes ago, I woke up to the TV on with nobody watching it. All four of my roomie's are snoring, so it's obvious that they didn't turn it on. Then, all I smell is booze for a mintute. Then I hear my father's voice saying 'Kimmy, Kimmy, Kimmy...' and then the smell is gone. And then I notice a dirty handprint on the wall that wasn't there before. I had some serious chills down my back. What are your ghost stories.

Used to see some 'thing' when I was about 7-10 years old. Was like a figure sitting on the ground hugging its knees to its chest and always saw it in the doorways in the house we used to live in. It used to be there for a fraction of a second.
Dont really believe in ghosts anymore. Used to be scared of the dark but then one day I thought 'what would Batman do?' and wasn't scared anymore. Serious.

Re: Ghost in a Dorm
Last year, I went on a trip to Galveston, TX with my sisters and her two kids. We stayed in this old Victorian house. In the middle off the night I have to go to the bathroom, which given the strange configuration of the house, is down a small flight of stairs. When I reach the bottom of the stairs the door to my bedroom slams shut. I leap about two feet in the air, startled. The next day I tell my sister and she thinks I probably started the door swinging shut behind me and it slammed. She tried to do this several time and the door never slams. The windows were closed so it couldn't have been wind. So as we are joking and experimenting my comes running back into the room. The lights in the hallway flickered at the precise moment she was mocking me for thinking it was a ghost. My oldest daughter said she could see a face in the window sometimes.

Re: Ghost in a Dorm
Im pretty sure it wasnt haunted, more likely to be something I imagined, because often when I was returning to my room after doing my homework Id turn around to see if I could catch a glimpse of it and I did sometimes.
The idea of ghosts is unbelievable if you look at it rationally. And thats what Batman does, and thats what I try to do.

D*mn! You've got some serious guts. I would've packed up the car and left the sister and her kids! Call me heartless, but kids seem to scream and wail every time I walk into a room. I think it's the hair.... They don't even bother to say hi, much less let me take them out of a haunted house..DaisyJane wrote:Last year, I went on a trip to Galveston, TX with my sisters and her two kids. Re: Ghost in a Dorm
Well we probably won't stay in that house again. And as creepy as ghosts can be they don't scare that much because they can really harm you. My husbands grandmother's house was a few hundred years old and definitely had something there as well.
And I wouldn't say that ghosts can't exist. We are all made up of energy and some entities may exist that vibrate at a different frequency that we can see per se. I mean they say insects can see more colors than us so other colors exist that we just can't see. So there very well may be a rational explanation for "ghosts".

Insects see infrared or ultra-violet radiations. Radiations cant physically move objects. Being a student of science, I find it extremely unlikely that anything like ghosts can exist. Being as intelligent as they seem, I dont think ghosts would spend their time spooking us.

I don't know about that.
If i was an undead spectre with nothing what so ever to do for essentially forever, I'd find ways to deal with the boredom and spooking the living seems like a decent way to have some fun for a bit.

Bioengineering.
Youd be able to travel the world, interact with physical objects at your will and probably have increased strength (not sure about that one). Id become the Batman.

How about helping out? Their unique abilities would allow them to do some pretty radical stuff. All that is assuming they actually exist, which Im pretty sure they do not.

of course they (most probably) don't. We're not speculating that they do, we're just musing over the idea of what if they did.Aztec-08 wrote:How about helping out? the next question is, why would they help out? assuming that they could, considering that they are supposed to be immaterial and all, what motivation would they have to help out the living? maybe those closely related to them, one could understand, but otherwise?
if you 'live' forever, at which point does everything you see become practically meaningless, a la "I've seen it before"?

I'd love to have a ghost-y experience or something man .. but somehow they steer clear from me .. I've visisted old haunted mansions and castles in India, spent the night walking around in graveyards and even tried summoning spirits on the Ouija board but somehow those sneaky fuckers steer clear of me

No worries Phantom! It'll happen someday... Although then again, this sh*t has happened to me since I was 4-12. Now it wants to start up again.Phantomstranger wrote:I'd love to have a ghost-y experience or something man .. but somehow they steer clear from me .. One of the scariest (but happiest) memories was when I was 5. My father was still living at this point, and abused my sister and I many ways, mostly physical abuse. After about 11, he'd punched Sophie (my sister) because she was asking for some crackers. After treating her wound, I was about to get some crackers, but I had to get her from going back in our father's room. When I had my back turned, the cabinet door opened and I heard things in my fathers room crash down. He was knocked out for 2 hours, and we ate those crackers in peace. A first for us.
I think it was my mother. Even though I have one real memory of her (and that was finding her body),the thing kept telling us it was going to be okay. It still sends chills down my spine to remember that voice, it still made me happy. It was reassurance that everything was going to be okay. Sorry for rambling!

Re: Ghost in a Dorm
Try working in a place with history. The Library I work at has a lot of history connected to it. Some of comes from before it was a library, some comes from after it became one. I for one have been beamed in the back of the head with a book. The book came from a shelf at least four foot behind him, and I serious doubt it simply fell into the air, was caught by an air current, and carried four feet to hit me in the back of the head.
Aztec-08, to answer you question... I think the reason we don't hear about ghost helping people, which according to legend those spirits are called Quick Silvers or are also called Familiar Spirits (at times), is because in life or death, the douche bags get the attention. The ones who like to hurt, torment, torture, or otherwise fuck with someone are the ones that really get the attention. Would you care if there was a story which was more or less like Casper the Friendly Ghost, or would you want to hear about a ghost who pants people, threw them down a flight of stairs, and then caused the walls to bleed?

Sure, the one making a scene always gets the attention. But I still fail to see how a non-physical entity can have a mind of its own, and such a developed one at that. It took us millions of years to evolve and get where we are.
The concept of ghosts seems to be similar to the 'god of the gaps'; something happens, we cant understand how it happened or we're simply spooked, hence ghosts.

True, but the study of Paranormal Psychology is gaining some ground, and some respectable cred among other soft science studies, when it comes to actual study of unexplained phenomena. Although they can't, and most often won't, declare if what they've found could be ghosts or not it does give the sense that there could be something beyond the extent of our own five senses. Perhaps something metaphysical in nature we can't touch, see, taste, or hear, but exists all the same. Who knows.
