Total War: Warhammer

Total War: WARHAMMER Accidentally Announced

People have been expecting this for over two years now, but Creative Assembly and Sega have finally gone and announced a Total War: WARHAMMER game. In about the most anticlimactic way possible.

The studio has put together an art book, covering the history of the Total War series, and it wasn't due to ship to customers until the end of this month. Some early copies are heading out now, though, and one fan who already has one found something in a section written by CA's Mike Simpson:

Like I said, we knew this was coming eventually. And before you freak out that this signals and end (or at least a pause) in the studio's historical games, remember, the team making this Warhammer game is new.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle it. Games Workshop's fantasy universe has never been as popular as Warhammer 40K, and yet its setting — epic battles made up of footmen, knights, etc — lends itself perfectly to Creative Assembly's brand of warfare.

I've been a little disappointed with the recent Total War games. I still play the original Rome a lot.

I kinda wish they would go back to basics with the series. I am not a fan of having to have generals to have an army. I liked having massive armies lead by captains in Rome:TW

Rome 1 had alot of issues... so lets go back to Pikemen they have invisible walls, oversized trees, Ai that can only use two streets and a diplomacy ability of an expansionist i.e you have a border with me INVADE!!!!
besides all armys had a General unless they were moving from one City to another.

Each of the Total Wars games I have played offered something really really good but then messed it up with something else bad or annoying. The biggest issue I have is the useless AI in each of the games....it's actually gotten WORSE since Rome 1 imo and I didn't think that was possible....

Love the Total War games, but I am not sure whether I like that they chose the Warhammer setting for the next game. I´ll probably play the Charlemagne Addon for Atilla while the rest is having fun with this.

Hope at some point they do another Medieval which more accurately depicts the world of the Middle Ages with its smaller duchies and complex diplomacy similar to the Crusader Kings series.
Alltough a really realistic Medieval Wargame probably would be terribly frustrating since success in battle dependet a lot on luck, your diplomatic options and ressources other than the battles of ancients times where you had a better chance of succeding as an Alexander like conqueror.

Imagine the turn times just waiting for your turn. Rome 2 and Attila had the issue at the start I believe.
